VHS Review (Posted on 05-03-2018)

Here's something you never thought you'd see: A promo tape for a car! This one is the 1995 Blazer from Chevrolet. My parents were all about sports sedans when it came to cars, so never, at least as far as I can remember, did we ever own a Chevrolet. While it sure looks like a neat car, according to my brief research, there are still folks on the road driving this same car.

This promo is introduced by professional off-road driver Rick Johnson telling viewers an overview of the "new" car from Chevrolet—"new" meaning back in 1995. Along the way, you get exclusive interviews and insights from those in the business and what break-throughs they integrated in making this nicely-crafted car. What I found a bit amusing were the interviews with the consumers who drive this car, giving their brief reactions and thoughts about the driving, the space and the comfortability.

The video itself? It feels like an informercial. I don't find that a bad thing, compared to the other promo tapes, but I felt like this is best shown at 2AM after all the scheduled, daily programming on a TV network. The video sure gives it that feel.

If you don't believe me, here's a full video of it, thanks to a third-party user:

Never would I think automotive companies would also resort to marketing via VHS tapes. This video tape was simple and nicely done. I'm not sure if it ever aired on TV but it sure looks fit for it. I must also mention that this is a rare tape that actually has closed captioning; There are promo tapes who don't have closed captioning on their videos.

A question to wrap this review up: Anyone still have and still drive their 1995 Blazer? Let us know in the comments section!
